Brief Description: The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) awards Safe Routes to School grant funding for the purpose of facilitating the development and implementation of projects and activities that enable and encourage children to walk or bike to school. The City could receive grant funding for the sidewalk connecting Franklin Street to the East Woods Intermediate School.

Purpose & Explanation
The Ohio Department of Transportation recently announced the next round of Safe Routes to School grant funding to support projects that support K-12 students walking and biking to school. The program supports infrastructure and non-infrastructure initiatives in five categories: engineering, encouragement, education, enforcement, and evaluation. The City of Hudson intends to apply for an eligible infrastructure project for construction of new 6’sidewalk to improve access from Franklin Street to East Woods Intermediate School at an estimated cost of $415,518.39.
Projects submitted under this grant must be located within two miles of a K-12 school and be included in an approved School Travel Plan. ODOT will reimburse up to 100% of eligible costs, including preliminary engineering, design, right-of-way, construction, and construction engineering, with a not-to-exceed amount of $1,000,000 per project.
