Title

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ADVERTISE FOR COMPETITIVE BIDS AND TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT FOR THE DIVISION STREET STORM SEWER IMPROVEMENT PROJECT.

Brief Description:   The Division Street Storm Sewer Improvement Project will involve the installation of new storm collection system along the westerly section of Division Street from E. Main Street to College Street

Body

Legislative History

None.

Purpose & Explanation

The existing drainage system along Division Street between E. Main Street and College Street, has failed and is no longer able to convey downspout and sump pump flows from private properties to the City’s storm sewer system.

The project will introduce a new storm collection system within Division Street, and also downspout connection services to the right-of-way for future property owner tie-ins to the new storm collector pipe.  Upon completion of the project, the roadway is anticipated to be resurfaced as part of the 2022 Annual Resurfacing Program.

The City Engineering Department anticipates designing the project in-house.  The work is scheduled to be completed by the Summer of 2022.

The estimated project cost of construction including a 10% contingency is $200,000.

Following the approval of this Resolution by City Council, the Engineering Department will advertise in the local newspaper and receive bids for this project.  Staff will only return to Council if the bids received are in excess of 10% of the Engineer’s Estimate; otherwise, the City Manager is authorized to enter into a contract with the lowest and best bidder.
