Brief Description:  This Resolution provides authorization to advertise for bids and enter into an agreement for the provision of roadside dead animal removal and disposal under the administration of the Public Works Department, as well as affirmation of an existing agreement for said services.

Resolution No. 17-200, authorizing the City Manager to advertise for bids for the provision of dead animal removal services in the right-of-way, passed December 27, 2017.

Purpose & Explanation

The Public Works Department contracts for roadside dead animal collection and disposal services, and staff entered into a contract with A&S Animal Control Services commencing on September 1, 2018  for a three-year term. These services are an important public health component of Publics Works operations.  Continuing service under this agreement requires affirmation by City Council. 

Staff also seeks permission to bid and award for the next three-year term a contract commencing on September 1, 2021 and running through August 31, 2024 in a total amount not to exceed $75,000, as appropriated by City Council during the contract term.

Suggested Action

Staff recommends that City Council approve this Resolution to authorize the City Manager to bid and award a 3-year contract for the provision of roadside dead animal collection and disposal services from September 1, 2021, through August 31, 2024, in a total amount not to exceed $75,000.00 and to affirm the City’s action to enter into a similar existing agreement with A&S Animal Control Services.
