Purpose & Explanation
The Street Trees and Greens budget and Hudson Public Power budget historically have contracted out tree trimming services to the best and lowest bidder. The tree trimming and maintenance budget lines in Street Trees and Hudson Public Power provides for tree maintenance including pruning limbs, removing trees, grinding stumps, and applying herbicide treatments where needed. This contract is a two (2) year term with an option to renew the contract for an additional two (2) years provided services are acceptable and pricing remains reasonable.
Tree trimming and maintenance time and materials categories were developed and bids advertised and sent out to qualified bidders. The attached bid tabulation shows the bidders and pricing. The contract pricing represents a 7.26% cost increase from the last contract. Hudson Public Power budgets $425,000 annually for line clearance tree trimming and removals. Street Trees and Greens budgets $150,000 annually for tree trimming and removals. The Asplundh Tree Expert Company is the lowest and best bidder. Asplundh has held this City contract in the past and has provided excellent, professional service to the City of Hudson.

Staff recommends City Council approve the resolution to allow the City Manager to enter into a contract with Asplundh Tree Expert Company, 708 Blair Mill Road, Willow Grove PA 19090-1784 for contract tree trimming and maintenance services at the unit costs specified in the attached bid tabulation for a contract term of two (2) years.
