Purpose and Explanation
As you know, our fleet is going through a transition from the ubiquitous, yet popular and long serving Crown Victoria Police Interceptor (CVPI), which is no longer being produced by Ford. Our previous patrol car replacement consisted of the purchase of two Dodge Chargers. These cars do meet the need of a front line patrol cruiser, but they are a bit smaller than the CVPI. We have an opportunity to buy the NGPI-Utility and assess it for present and future fleet use due to this unfortunate crash. It is a larger vehicle, has a V6 engine with good acceleration, more storage space and a higher seating position allowing greater visibility, making it more comfortable and with less strain on lower backs climbing in and out while wearing a twenty pound gun belt. Area departments are going to this platform, but we would prefer to see real-Hudson PD patrol usage as opposed to relying on their mostly anecdotal experiences.
I directed Sgt. Thompson to ascertain state bid pricing for the Ford NGPI-Utility, and to check with local dealers for further potential competitive pricing. Germain Ford returned the lowest price, at state contract pricing, at $25,244.00. The three other dealers were Statewide Ford at $25,403.00, Montrose Ford at $25,863.04, and GSA AutoChoice at $25,812.57 for the same specified vehicle.
Timing Considerations
Due to the timing of the crash, insurance settlement and council recess, we are requesting this as an emergency resolution for purposes of meeting the 2013 ordering deadline.
