A RESOLUTION RETROACTIVELY AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF AN APPLICATION BY THE CITY MANAGER’S DESIGNEE TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY FOR A FIRE PREVENTION AND SAFETY GRANT ON BEHALF OF THE HUDSON FIRE DEPARTMENT; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
Brief Description: The purpose of the Fire Prevention & Safety Grant Program is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to the fire and fire-related hazards by assisting prevention programs. Approximately $20,000 is being requested to continue the Fire Safe Seniors program. A 5% match of approximately $1,000 is required.

Purpose & Explanation
Staff is seeking funding from the Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency through a Fire Prevention & Safety Program Grant to fund the continuation of the Fire Safe Seniors program previously created through a Fire Prevention & Safety Grant. The grant could provide up to approximately $20,000 to fund additional secured key boxes and carbon monoxide detectors to distribute to at-risk over 65 residents living in their own homes in Hudson. A 5% match of approximately $1,000 is required. The grant deadline is March 31, 2023.
The Fire Safe Seniors program has provided over 820 smoke detectors, over 240 carbon monoxide detectors and over 250 secure key boxes to Hudson residents age 65 and over living in their own homes. The objective of the Fire Safe Seniors program is to improve the health and safety of these residents, while reducing their risk of fire and carbon monoxide related injury and death.
