Purpose & Explanation

Staff is seeking funding from the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Division of Emergency Medical Services, through an EMS Priority One Training and Equipment Grant to fund training and/or equipment listed on the Training and Equipment List/Expenditures Form as approved by the Ohio Emergency Medical, Fire and Transportation Services (EMFTS) Board.  There is no mandatory match.

The funding source for the grant program is fines levied in the State of Ohio for seat belt violations. 
Previous funding amounts, determined by rank of needs-based score and total funding available, have varied:

2017- $4800

2018- $5617

2019- $1128

2020- $3539

2021- $3562

2022- $759 (as a result of Covid-19 pandemic, the availability of funds decreased significantly)

Suggested Action

Staff recommends that Council pass this Resolution, authorizing the City Manager’s Designee to submit an application to the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Division of Emergency Medical Services, for an EMS Priority One Training and Equipment Grant and acceptance of awarded funding.
