Body

Legislative History

Resolution No. 17-62, authorizing the City Manager to Advertise for Bids and Enter into a Contract for Repainting of the Fire Hydrants on the Akron Water System, passed 4/4/2017.

Purpose & Explanation

The original intent of the project was to paint as many of the 476 Akron Water System hydrants as the winning bid would allow within our $40,000 budget. The low bid of $108.70 per hydrant allows for the painting of 368 hydrants. The additional 108 hydrants were planned to be rebid and painted next year, along with the 100 hydrants on the Cleveland Water System. Upon receipt of the bids, staff agrees that with the price quoted by Delta Industrial Services, that it was better to request a change order now to take advantage of the pricing and get all of the Akron and Cleveland Water System fire hydrants painted this year. Delta Industrial Services has agreed to extend their pricing to the additional 208 hydrants.  See attached e-mail and bid tab. The change order request is for $22,612.

Timing Considerations

Emergency language is requested.  Upon authorization to proceed by the City Council, the administration will execute a change order in the amount of $22,612 with Delta Industrial Services Inc.
