A RESOLUTION AFFIRMING THE APPLICATION SUBMITTED BY THE CITY MANAGER’S DESIGNEE TO THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY’S (FEMA) FY24 FIRE PREVENTION AND SAFETY GRANT TO SUPPORT THE SAFE SENIORS PROGRAM.
Brief Description: The Fiscal Year 2024 Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Grant is a federally funded opportunity administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. The primary goal of the FP&S Grant is to support projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and related hazards. The FP&S Grant is divided into two main categories: 1) Fire Prevention and Safety Activities, or 2) Firefighter Safety Research and Development. The City of Hudson could receive the requested amount of $45,000 with a 5% match of $2,250.

Purpose & Explanation
The City of Hudson desires FP&S funding to continue supporting the Fire Safe Seniors Program first introduced in 2018 for individuals 65 and over living independently in their homes. According to the 2020 census, 9.4% of the population in the City of Hudson meets the criteria of this program with 503 seniors currently enrolled. The FP&S funding would be used to purchase carbon monoxide detectors, Knox boxes, and marketing materials to serve 100 additional participants (at approximately $450 per resident).
The current program includes the following items: Knox box, carbon monoxide detectors, smoke alarms, and other items, such as reflective address numbers, and/or bed shaker/strobe for hearing impaired if available.
American Red Cross is a current partner for smoke detectors.
