Brief Description:  The City of Hudson continues to seek funding sources for the Nicholson Water Transmission Line Project for the betterment of the Hudson Water System in Summit County, Ohio.

Purpose & Explanation

The City of Hudson has been seeking funding sources for the Nicholson Drive Water Transmission Line Project to be constructed between State Route 303 and Barlow Road. The proposed connection will maintain water operations throughout the system, improve water quality, and provide increased fire protection.

The project will include 6,500 lineal feet of 12” diameter Ductile Iron Pipe, water valves, fire hydrants, water service connections, pavement and landscaping replacement within the existing right-of-way of Nicholson Drive. The estimated total cost of the project is $3,614,837.00.

The City was awarded Community Project Funding of $959,752.00 in Fiscal Year 2024 through Congresswoman Emilia Sykes office. Additionally, the City has committed to a local match of $847,666.50 toward the project. As a result, Staff has completed an application requesting for the remaining $1,807,418.50 required to fund the project through Senator Sherrod Brown’s Congressional Directed Spending Requests for Fiscal Year 2025.

Estimated Construction Costs:

Request for 50% EDA funding = $1,807,418.50
FY24 OH-13 Community Project Funding = $959,752.00
Local Match = $847,666.50

Suggested Action

Staff recommends passage of this Resolution to affirm submission by the City Manager’s Designee of an application to Senator Sherrod Brown’s Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) Requests for Fiscal Year 2025 and declaring an emergency.
