Purpose & Explanation
Update to W. Streetsboro St (303) Improvements - Boston Mills to Atterbury Blvd.
At the November 26, 2024, Workshop, city staff presented proposed safety improvements for West Streetsboro Street (SR 303) to the City Council. The project goal is to enhance vehicle and pedestrian safety on West Streetsboro Street between Boston Mills Road and Atterbury Boulevard. Originally, the plan included a new median island, curb bump-outs, modifications to the Atterbury Boulevard intersection island, and upgrades to curb ramps and pedestrian signals.
During the November Workshop, the Council expressed concerns about potential maintenance issues and unforeseen traffic impacts related to the proposed curb bump-outs, curbed median, and island changes along the corridor and at Atterbury Boulevard. The discussion recommended postponing these improvements. Instead of the curbed median, bump-outs, and Atterbury island modifications, pavement striping, signage improvements and curb ramp work should be first implemented. If these initial changes prove effective, then future curbing and other improvements could be implemented later. An updated plan and estimate identified that the cost of the striping, curb ramp and pedestrian pushbutton upgrades is estimated at $90,000. See updated “Exhibit - Proposed W. Streetsboro Rd Safety Improvements” for further reference.
City staff has presented this revised plan to ODOT and ODOT has approved the changes to the project scope and confirmed that it will still participate in grant funding. The ODOT funded project is anticipated to be bid in mid-summer and constructed in late summer or fall, 2025.
Update to W. Streetsboro St (303) Improvements - RxR Bridges to Main Street (91)
In addition to the improvements noted above, staff will review potential, City funded safety improvements along the W. Streetsboro Street corridor between the RxR tracks and Main Street (SR 91) that staff is currently reviewing and planning to begin implementing, starting in the fall, 2025.
