The cost to enlarge the project's footprint is $125,000.00. The Public Works Department has also received a grant for this improvement from the Vans Shoe Company in the amount of $50,000. As such, the additional cost to the parks to meet the requests of the skatepark users and the design team is $75,000. Staff wishes to include the additional square footage as recommended by the project design team.

Purpose & Explanation

After discussions at City Council and Park Board meetings, project feedback from local and regional skaters was conveyed to the design team at Grindline Skateparks Company. Based on user comments, and concerns regarding the project design, Grindline designers has recommended an additional of 2,500 square feet be added to the existing 7,500 square foot platform.  The overwhelming majority of user comments were concerns that the project footprint was too small and congested and would result in safety risks to users. The estimated cost of construction to increase the footprint by 2,500 square feet is $50 per square foot at a total additional cost of $125,000.00. The City has received a grant from the Vans Shoe Company in the amount of $50,000 to help offset the cost of the additional square footage.
