Purpose & Explanation
In the past, the City has honored the application to light the Gazebo pink, and place pink bows on structures downtown in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We received a request last year to light the Gazebo purple for Alzheimer's Awareness Month, but that was turned down because we install our Holiday Lights on the green during that time.
This year, we have received two new requests to light the gazebo in colors for different causes: Red in February for Go Red for Women by the Heart Association and Blue in April for Autism Awareness.
In addition to lighting the Gazebo (which has been approved), the merchants, as part of their efforts for Women's Heart Health have requested that in addition to the Gazebo, we also light the Clock Tower in Red for the month of February. As the clock tower is a significant landmark in Hudson, we bring this request before Council for consideration.
Timing Considerations
With the month of February already underway, Council's quick consideration of this matter is required.
