Purpose & Explanation
At the Hudson City Council meeting on April 17, 2018, Mrs. Ciancio suggested the City consider placement of AED units in some of the City's busier parks, including Barlow Farm, Cascade, Oak Grove, and Colony Parks, where many local sporting activities are held. As a mother, she expressed concern for the risk of sudden cardiac arrest among youth athletes, and she said that the survival rate greatly increases with the use of AEDs. She suggested the City install self-monitoring AEDs in indoor/outdoor cabinets in order to improve safety in the Parks, and she provided detailed product information.
Staff researched Mrs. Ciancio’s proposal and solicited community funding for placement of AED units at various parks locations. To date, generous pledges and donations to fund more than seven units have been received by the City, six units at local parks and one unit on the Barlow Community Center walking trail. The City appreciates the generous donations received to date and is seeking additional funding for AED units at five more Hudson Parks locations.
Alex Kelemen, Ward 3 Council representative, requested this Resolution to recognize the importance of public input and community involvement.
