Purpose & Explanation
2022 W. Streetsboro Street (SR 303) Safety Study and On-Going Improvements
In January 2022, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) finalized the Formal Safety Study of the roadway and pedestrian corridor along W. Streetsboro Street (SR 303) between Boston Mills Road and SR 91that reviewed various roadway, sidewalk and signal improvements along the corridor.
The study’s final recommendations included further evaluation and detailed design in order to construct a specific set of improvements to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety between Boston Mills Road and SR 91 including converting the existing 4-lane section from Boston Mills Road to Atterbury Boulevard to 3-lanes including turn lanes, restriping the existing 3-lane section from Library Street to Main Street (SR 91), consolidate driveways/restrict turns to simplify operations, upgrade/update curb ramps and pedestrian countdown timers at signalized intersections and remove sight distance obstructions.
ODOT was then able to partially fund the first phase of improvements between Boston Mills Road and Atterbury Boulevard, which include restriping of the roadway, curb ramp improvements and pedestrian signal upgrades. These improvements will commence in April. See “303 Safety Imp Map - Boston Mills to Atterbury” attached.
Future W. Streetsboro St (303) Safety Improvements - RxR Bridges up to Main Street (91)
City staff are currently planning additional city-funded safety measures along the corridor from the railroad tracks to Main Street (SR 91). These improvements are slated to begin in Summer 2026.
Scheduled for 2026:
- Removal of the westerly crosswalk and pedestrian signal at the Library Street / 60 W. Streetsboro Street intersection.
- Reduction of the driveway width at 30 E. Streetsboro Street.
- Restriping of the center lane east of First Street.
Future Considerations (Pending Business Owner Discussions):
- Railroad Underpass: Converting the commercial drive entrance at 70 W. Streetsboro Street to "right-in, right-out" only, eliminating the westbound turn lane, and widening the sidewalk under the tracks.
- Gas Station Access: Removing the westernmost commercial driveway at 45 W. Streetsboro Street entrance to reduce traffic conflict points.
