Res No. 22-169 - Permission to Bid and Award; 12/28/2022
Purpose & Explanation
The project includes the installation of 1.23 miles of five (5) foot concrete sidewalk, storm improvements, ADA curb ramps, lighting upgrades, and intersection improvements and signing along Middleton Road between SR 91 and Valley View Road.
The original amount budgeted for this project was $1,125,000. Due to increased material costs, staff increased the final Engineers Estimate for this project to $1,235,026.00.
Bids were opened on July 18, 2023, with two bids being received. The lowest bid was $1,407,489.55, which was approximately 14% above our Engineer’s Estimate of $1,235,026. Bids were evaluated, and as with other projects that have been bid out this year, Engineering is seeing higher than anticipated bid costs due to overall higher material/labor costs and time of year for bidding/construction of the project.
The revised Engineers Estimate for this project is $1,425,469.00. Staff is also requesting a 10% contingency in the amount of $142,547.00 to cover any unforeseen issues that may arise during construction for a total cost of $1,568,016.00. The total additional amount requested is $443,016 that would need to be appropriated to cover the cost of this project.
A summary spreadsheet of the overall Connectivity Plan’s budget is attached for reference. The 2021-2025 Connectivity Plan budget is currently approximately $2.2 million under budget, which already accounts for the additional funds requested.
Pending Council approval of the revised budget, staff will rebid the project this fall and commence with construction over the winter through summer 2024.
