A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A WATER TOWER LEASE AGREEMENT WITH HUDSON CITY SCHOOLS FOR THE INSTALLATION OF COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
Brief Description: This project involves Hudson City Schools placing a communications antenna and associated equipment on the water tower located at 5331 Darrow Road for the purpose of expanding communications ability to include the new bus garage. The Schools will pay for the entire installation. The City will work with the Schools to simply provide space on the water tower and will neither incur any associated costs nor charge a lease payment.

Purpose & Explanation
The Public Works Department was contacted earlier this year by the Hudson City Schools to assist with developing options to relocate their radio equipment from 91 Owen Brown to the new facility located on Hudson Drive. The Public Works Department, Hudson City Schools and their communications contractor developed several potential installation methods to address their needs. These options were reviewed with the most feasible method being the installation of the radio antenna mounted to the water tower on Darrow Road at a lower elevation on one of the tower’s support legs.

Suggested Action
Staff recommends that City Council approve this Resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into a water tower lease agreement with Hudson City Schools for communications antenna attachment on the Darrow Road water tower. Emergency language is being requested due to timing considerations.
