Executive Summary: This project involves the expanded installation of an underground conduit system along with the installation and termination of fiber optic cable for the purpose of providing Velocity Broadband services to new customers.

Purpose & Explanation
As the buildout for Velocity expands to accommodate a growing number of customers, we expect to exceed the original estimated quantities of boring and fiber installation services from the currently authorized Contract. Originally we estimated a total contract amount of $137,860 for boring services and fiber installation, but due to additional boring needed for new customers, the quantities needed have increased. These increases are necessary to keep the project in line to meet deadlines and project completion. Staff is requesting additional funds in the amount of $62,000. Mapping of which areas/customers these additional runs will serve have been attached for review.
Timing Considerations
Upon authorization to proceed by the City Council, the administration will encumber additional funds in the amount of $62,000 for O.C.I. Construction, Inc.

Staff recommends City Council approve this Resolution authorizing the City Manager to spend additional funds under the current contract with OCI Construction, Inc., 8560 Pekin Rd., Novelty, OH 44072, for underground boring and fiber optic cable services in the amount of $62,000. Staff has requested emergency language, so that this Resolution will be effective immediately. Emergency language was removed from this Resolution with passage on August 1, 2017, by a 4-1 vote.
