Title

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ADVERTISE FOR COMPETITIVE BIDS AND TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT FOR THE ATTERBURY BOULEVARD CULVERT EXTENSION PROJECT.

Brief Description:   The Atterbury Culvert Extension Project will involve the extension of an existing 36” storm pipe and erosion repairs within a City Storm Sewer Easement behind 458 Atterbury Boulevard.

Body

Legislative History

None.

Purpose & Explanation

In 2009, the city constructed the Atterbury Boulevard Roadway Reconstruction Project which included roadway, sanitary sewer, water main and storm water improvements along Atterbury Boulevard from Lake Forest Drive to Stratford Road.

As part of the storm water system improvements, a new water quality chamber was installed near the roadway at the outfall of the storm sewer system near 458 Atterbury Boulevard.  The storm water chamber discharges to 36” storm sewer, within a city storm sewer easement, behind the house to an existing drainage ditch before discharging into Pine Lake (see project map attached).  Just beyond the end of the 36” storm sewer, erosion to the channel has occurred to the property at 458 Atterbury Blvd.

The project will include the installation of approximately 85 feet of new storm pipe, new headwall, grading and grass area restoration to alleviate severe erosion taking place at the subject property.

The project is being designed in-house and the estimated project cost of construction including a 10% contingency is $110,000.

Following the approval of this Resolution by City Council, the Engineering Department will advertise in the local newspaper and receive bids for this project.  Staff will only return to Council if the bids received are in excess of 10% of the Engineer’s Estimate; otherwise, the City Manager is authorized to enter into a contract with the lowest and best bidder.
