Brief Description:  This contract is for the construction of the second year (7/2026-6/2027) of Velocity Broadband fiber to the home (FTTH) network construction project.

Resolution 25-49 authorized advertising for bids and entering into a contract for construction of the FTTH pilot project.

Resolution 25-89 authorized advertising for bids and entering into a contract for construction of the first year of FTTH projects.

Purpose & Explanation

This resolution allows staff to bid and award a contract for the construction of the areas designated as the first year of the FTTH project.  It is anticipated the first year will be completed by the end of August 2026 and staff would like permission to post bids for the second year at this time to help eliminate any gaps and/or delays in the buildout.

The estimated cost of the second-year buildout is $4,761,500. 

Attached to this file is the map outlining the second-year areas/neighborhoods along with the number of homes passed.

Suggested Action

Staff recommends that Council approves this authorization for the City Manager to advertise, receive bids and award to the lowest and best bidder construction of the second year (7/2026 - 6/2027) FTTH project.
