Purpose & Explanation

The Hudson Garden Club has requested to decorate the Gazebo with flowers during the weekend of the Hudson High School Prom and Mother’s Day (May 12-14).  This would offer an opportunity for the community to use the decorated Gazebo for photos.

The Hudson Garden Club has requested to decorate the Clock Tower with a large ribbon, floral wreaths and an arbor covered in flowers in front of the door leading up to the Home and Garden Tour (June 3-17).

The Hudson Garden Club also intends to enter a floral decorated vehicle in the Memorial Parade and would like to add ribbons to the Main Street lampposts to coordinate with the Clock Tower.  Pop-up floral displays are planned as well.  The Hudson Garden Club will work with the Community Relations Manager to request permission of pop-up floral locations.

The floral decorations will include a mix of real flowers and fake flowers in shades of pink with green bows. A photo of vision board and Clock Tower replica is attached to the staff report representing basic design. No signs will be attached to the Clock Tower or the Gazebo.

Staff sought feedback from the Hudson Heritage Association and the Hudson Lighting Committee for Council’s consideration in granting this permission.

On behalf of Hudson Heritage Association, Kathy Russell, co-president, said, “Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback.  We don’t object to decorating the clock tower.  If done tastefully, it could be a nice way to celebrate and promote the Hudson Garden Club’s 75th anniversary.” Ms. Russell did share some comments and questions regarding the specifics of the decorations and staff connected her with the Hudson Garden Club.  The Hudson Garden Club has welcomed input from Hudson Heritage Association should this request be granted by City Council.

The Hudson Lighting Committee did not feel they should be involved in the decision but did express concerns about decorating the Clock Tower and how that would impact all other Hudson organizations that want to use the Clock Tower in this manner.
