Brief Description:  The Public Works Department is requesting grant funding to help fund preservation efforts at the Old Hudson Township Burying Ground.  Estimated costs are $48,426.00.  The Ohio History Fund grant can provide up to $20,000 towards these costs and requires a 40% match.

Purpose & Explanation

Staff is seeking funding from the Ohio History Connection through an Ohio History Fund grant to help fund preservation efforts at the Old Hudson Township Burying Ground.  The cemetery is part of the Nationally Registered Historic District and houses the graves of many notable Hudsonites, including David Hudson and Owen Brown.  Preservation work on the 169 monuments, posts and plaques is estimated at $48,426.00.  The Ohio History Fund grant can provide up to $20,000 towards these costs.  A 40% match is required.  The Ohio History Fund grant is funded through a tax check-off on the Ohio state income tax return, the purchase of Ohio History ‘mastodon’ license plates and donations. Grant application is due September 4, 2019.

Staff recommends that Council pass this Resolution, affirming the City Manager’s application submittal to the Ohio History Connection for an Ohio History Fund Grant.
