25-82 - Permission to Bid/Award Contract; 5/10/2025

Purpose & Explanation

This traffic safety project is located along W. Streetsboro Street (SR 303) from Boston Mills Road to Atterbury Boulevard.  The project scope was reduced from its initial design and the current project includes pavement striping, signage improvements, and curb ramp work

The approved, total estimated cost of the project was $150,000, which included contingency, construction management, and inspection expenses. Funding was divided between the ODOT safety grant funds up to a maximum of $100,000, and the remaining funds provided by the City.

Bids were opened on August 5, 2025, with the following bids received:

Perk Company                     $148,155.96
Karvo Companies                     $157,795.19

The total project cost with a 10% contingency is $162,971.56 with ODOT paying the maximum grant amount of $100,000 and the City responsible for the remaining $62,971.56.

As the original legislation approved a total cost of up to $150,000, staff is seeking permission from City Council to increase the construction cost up to $162,971.56.  No extra appropriation is required.

An emergency clause is being added to expediate awarding the contract for this safety improvement project and commence with construction as soon as possible.
