Brief Description:  As requested by the City Council, staff is proposing amendments to codified ordinance sections 402.38 and 660.05 to clarify the definition of a sidewalk and the responsibility of sidewalk maintenance, including snow and ice control respectively when a sidewalk exists at the rear or back of a privately owned parcel.

Purpose & Explanation

At the 2022 City Council retreat, Council asked staff to formally exempt property owners  responsibility per code section 660.05 to maintain municipal sidewalks including the removal  of snow and ice when the sidewalk is located at the rear or behind a privately owned parcel.  Sidewalks that fall within this description will be maintained by the City of Hudson.  Code section 660.05 has been amended accordingly and has been attached for review.

To clarify the definition of a city “sidewalk”, codified section 402.38 has been amended to specify sidewalk construction material and sidewalk location.  Codified section e402.38 has been amended accordingly and has been attached for review.
