Executive Summary:   Mayor Basil will recognize March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, and a representative of the Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board will be in attendance to accept this Proclamation.

Purpose & Explanation

In 1987, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed March “Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month” and called upon Americans to provide the encouragement and opportunities necessary for people with developmental disabilities to reach their potential.

The Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board provides vital community resources to assist families of the developmentally disabled and helps to change perceptions about citizens with developmental disabilities.  For more information, see their website at <http://www.summitdd.org/>.
