Body
Legislative History
$75,000 was budgeted for a replacement generator in the 2012 budget.
Purpose & Explanation
Emergency generator backup power for the Safety Center is needed for ongoing operations in the event of a short- or mid-term power outage.  By 2012, the current backup generator was failing (reliability issues and water leaking into fuel tanks) so $75,000 was budgeted in 2012 for replacement.  Due to additional issues with the existing generator, a trailer mounted city generator is currently providing emergency backup power to the Safety Center.
During the process of developing a replacement configuration, it became evident that installation costs would be significantly greater than expected.  With the assistance of Engineering, a consulting engineer was engaged to develop specifications for the project.  The engineer's estimate is $130,000 ($45,000 for the generator, $30,000 for the transfer switch and $55,000 for labor and material).  A carry-over appropriation of the remaining $65,622 in funds from 2012 ($9,378 used for consulting services) as well as an additional appropriation is requested along with the request for City Council's acceptance to bid.
