Purpose & Explanation
EMS unit # 4016 has been kept in reserve since 2005 and used by EMS and occasionally by Police and Fire as an Incident Support Unit at major incidents and trainings. EMS also uses this vehicle as a backup ambulance when one of the three primary ambulances are out for a remount or for routine maintenance.
Due to maintenance and reliability issues this unit has reached the end of its life cycle and cannot be refurbished/remounted due to its antiquated electrical system. Hudson EMS has had great success with remounting our ambulances since 2009. The savings compared to purchasing seven new ambulances each time is estimated to be over $555,000. This will be the first new purchase of an ambulance for Hudson EMS since 2007

Due to long delays now associated with acquiring this new ambulance that was previously scheduled for purchase in 2022 and delivery in mid-2023, it is now anticipated the new ambulance will be delivered in early 2025.

Council has approved, via the five-year plan, the purchase of a replacement ambulance in 2022. $250,000 had been estimated and approved in the 2022 budget for this project. An additional $50,000 will need to be approved with the 3rd Qtr. appropriations.
