Body

Purpose & Explanation

“Bells of Peace: A National World War I Remembrance” is a national tolling of bells across the United States to honor those who served in the Great War.  The United States participated in World War I from April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918.

For the 100-year anniversary of the ending of hostilities on November 11, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., bells will slowly toll 21 times, symbolizing the nation's highest honor - the 21-gun salute.

Timing Considerations

A ceremony recognizing Bells of Peace, A National World War I Remembrance will take place at the newly restored Hudson World War I Memorial on the Boy Scout Cabin Green on November 11, 2018, at 11 a.m.

Recommendation

Suggested Action

I encourage our citizens to pause at 11:00 a.m. on November 11, 2018, and recognize, commemorate, and give thanks for the service and sacrifice of those who served in World War I.
