Purpose & Explanation
The project will replace the existing, 50 plus-year-old, 6" diameter cast iron water main on W. Case with a new 8" diameter water main from SR 303, approximately 1,900 feet south to Lynn Drive. The project also includes the replacement of water services between the main line and the right-of-way. This section of waterline has had approximately 13 breaks since 1997 and continues to be a maintenance issue for the City Public Works Department. Besides reducing maintenance and interruptions to the residents, the new water line will improve fire flows in this area.

The original amount budgeted for this project was $685,000.

To help reduce the project's construction costs, staff modified the design to reduce costs associated with bedrock excavation. In addition, staff anticipates lower costs by bidding and constructing the project in the winter. After the waterline is constructed, W. Case Drive is scheduled for resurfacing.

The revised Engineers Estimate for this project is $727,272.73. Staff is also requesting a 10% contingenc...
