The City was awarded $211,612 (75%) from the Ohio Department of Development with a required match of $70,538 (25%).

Purpose & Explanation
The purpose of this application for funding through the Brownfield Remediation Program was to help fund the cost of hazardous substance removal at the site of the former Youth Development Center on Hines Hill Road. Estimated cost for removal of hazardous substances with contingency is $282,150. The application sought $211,612 (75%) with a match of $70,538 (25%). Removal of hazardous substances on the city-owned property will make the property more desirable for development.
Background of program:
Included in Substitute House Bill 110, the state budget bill for State Fiscal Years 2022-2023, Ohio Revised Code 122.6512 created the Brownfield Remediation program with rules and guidelines released on December 7, 2021. The programs made $350 million to remediate brownfield sites statewide with $1 million set-aside for each county. Properties must meet ODOD definition of a 'brownfield' to be eligible: abandoned, idled, or under-used industrial, commercial or institutional property where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by known or potential releases of hazardous substances or petroleum.
