Purpose & Explanation
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry will award USDA Forest Service funding for the purchase and planting of trees on land owned or controlled by local governments. A goal of the program is to restore the community tree canopy with large-stature trees and promote species diversity. Hudson Springs Parks suffered significant tree loss and tree damage during a severe thunderstorm on June 1, 2022. The Hudson Parks are working with the Friends of Hudson Parks on an invasive species management program. A healthy tree canopy is crucial to this program and to the overall biodiversity of Hudson Springs Park. The grant application is due October 14, 2022, and requires a City Council resolution authorizing the application, a letter of support from the Hudson Tree Commission or the Hudson arborist and a signed statement from a designated community official certifying responsibility for the maintenance of the plantings. The City of Hudson is requesting $8,000.00 in funding with a required match of $8,000.00. Applicants will be notified of their status by October 27, 2022. This is a reimbursement grant.
