Executive Summary: The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation provides the Safety Intervention Grant program to Ohio public employers who wish to purchase equipment to substantially reduce or eliminate injuries and illnesses associated with a particular task or operation. Grant funding will assist with the purchase of a magnetic manhole cover lift system.

Purpose & Explanation
Hudson Public Power and the City’s Service Department will use the funding to purchase a magnetic manhole cover lift system. The magnetic manhole cover lift system will reduce the potential for injuries to backs, fingers, and toes. The grant will provide 75% ($1,971.75) of the cost of the manhole cover lift system. The City’s match is approximately $657.25.

Staff recommends that City Council authorize the City Manager to accept a Safety Intervention Grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation for a magnetic manhole cover lift system to reduce injuries.
