Purpose & Explanation
The City of Hudson Engineering and Public Works Departments investigated a set of failing storm culvert crossing located under Ranett Avenue, north of Middleton Road near house #7816 Ranett Avenue. The twin, existing 36"x47" elliptical corrugated metal culverts have begun to fail due to their age (over 25 years old). The investigation has established that due to the inverts of the culverts rotting out, the culverts have started to lose their strength and deform, causing the settling in the roadway. It has been determined that the best, long term repair solution to remedy this issue includes the removal of the metal culverts and installation of new concrete culverts which will provide a longer service life (over 50 years) than metal pipe.
The City Engineering Department is currently working on finalizing the plans and specifications for the improvements. The work is scheduled to be completed by the Fall of 2016.
The estimated project cost of construction plus 10% contingency is approximately $80,000.
