Purpose & Explanation
The Environmental Awareness Committee (EAC) has presented the Stewardship Award the past three years to local businesses or organizations that have maintained environmental sustainability. Applications for the award have been announced via the City website and the Chamber of Commerce. Past winners have been Hudson's Restaurant, Dr. John White, DDS, and Laurel Lake Retirement Community.
The Taste of Hudson organization was chosen this year for their initiative in reducing solid waste at the annual Taste of Hudson Labor Day weekend event. With the assistance of the Hudson Environmental Awareness Committee, ReWorks and students from the Western Reserve Academy, the event significantly increased recycling from participants and vendors. Composting was also initiated at one of the dining tents. As a result of these efforts, 3.95 tons of waste was recycled and 1,405 pounds of food scraps were composted. Taste of Hudson is committed to the continued efforts to make Taste of Hudson a Zero Waste event.
