Brief Description: The project will include the replacement of the operating components of the existing elevator at City Hall. These components include the car controller, car switches and panels, door interlocks, emergency systems, and the communication system as well as required electrical and HVAC upgrades.

Purpose & Explanation
The City Hall remodel project did not include funding for the elevator which is believed to be original to the building. Since using City Hall over the last several years, staff have worked to improve the reliability and durability of the elevator. Unfortunately, the elevator remains unreliable. Upgrades will improve fire and safety features while decreasing user wait times. There will also be a decrease in energy consumption and reduced operational costs.
In June 2022, staff invited two vendors to provide pricing on the improvement project. The vendors provided a price of approximately $80,000 and this amount was included in the 2023 budget. During the project planning stage, staff were notified that due to the age of the unit, the entire elevator and all controls must be brought up to current code standards. This increase in project scope will also include required electrical work to add lighting in the elevator pit area, new disconnect switches, electrical upgrades in the mechanical room, and HVAC improvements in the mechanical room. A fire-rated door will also be added to the mechanical room.
