A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH THAYER POWER & COMMUNICATIONS FOR FIBER OPTIC CABLE INSTALLATION.

Body
Legislative History
Resolution No. 18-188, permission to bid.
Purpose & Explanation
A Request for Proposals for aerial fiber optic cable installation and termination was advertised publicly per the City Charter. The Public Works Department received two (2) bids for these services. The bidding document was developed to give the City unit pricing by using minimum quantities for as needed services. The contract provides for all labor and equipment related to the service installations to provide Velocity Broadband service.
The City Administration is requesting City Council approve and authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with Thayer Power & Communication for said services in an amount not to exceed $150,000.
Note: the unit pricing for this contract represents a 17.40% increase from the prior two-year contract. The prior contract, as the City was building out VBB infrastructure, contained much higher quantities and pre-scheduled work. The current contract is more a time and materials which is likely the driver behind the increase.
