Executive Summary: With passage of this Resolution, Hudson will join Summit County in legal action against opioid manufacturers and distributors.

Purpose & Explanation
Drug addictions, overdoses, and deaths attributed to the nation’s opioid epidemic have resulted in substantial costs to communities, and affected individuals have endured much pain and have been impacted by significant quality of life issues. Government officials at the federal, state, county, and local levels have acknowledged the opioid epidemic.
Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro recently signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency due to the opioid epidemic. In addition, she announced the County’s intent to initiate legal action against opioid manufacturers and distributors and has invited communities to formally join in this legal action. There is no upfront cost to the City, and any legal fees and costs would be deducted from a monetary recovery or settlement, if there is one.
Timing Considerations
It is anticipated that Summit County will file legal action within 30 days.
