Executive Summary:  The City’s Ad Hoc Committee for Community-Wide Fiber has requested authorization from City Council to pursue an updated survey concerning community broadband support and attendance at an upcoming broadband conference.

Purpose & Explanation

City Council received the attached memorandum from the Christina Tait, Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee for Community-Wide Fiber, requesting authorization from City Council to pursue an updated survey concerning community broadband support and attendance at a regional public broadband development conference, Great Lakes Connect, in Fairlawn on September 24-24, 2018.  For information concerning the conference, see <http://greatlakesconnect.org>   

Timing Considerations

Due to the timing of the Great Lakes Connect conference in late September and time necessary to conduct an updated community survey, the Ad Hoc Committee has requested an extension of the October 2, 2018, deadline for their recommendation to City Council regarding Community-Wide Fiber.
