The City will need to enter into an agreement with Metro RTA to convert the existing Akron Metro railway line in Hudson into a new recreational trail. This is the 2nd phase of the trail which is part of a larger proposed trail connection through Stow, Silver Lake and Cuyahoga Falls. The 1st phase of the trail, between Cuyahoga Falls and Stow is currently in the planning and design stage and is being managed by the City of Stow.
Both phases of the trail have received Akron Metropolitan and Transportation Study (AMATS) grants in 2019 and 2021 respectively.
The Federal Rail Administration will need to approve of this conversion from a railway line to a recreational trail, before any design is authorized.
Following the review and approval by City Council, the City staff will enter into the agreement with the Metro Regional Transit Authority to convert the railway line into a trail within Hudson.
