Purpose & Explanation

Our City Council records show that Hudson erected a plaque near the former location of the old Hudson Depot to commemorate the day President-Elect, Abraham Lincoln stopped in Hudson on February 15, 1861, & he gave a brief speech to over 6,000 people in route to Washington for his 1st Presidential Inaugural.

This plaque was never codified by any previous Council’s according to our research.

See the attachments of the plaque, site plan and the 1856 historical map photos of Summit County including the Village of Hudson from the Western Reserve Library identifying the old Hudson depot location when Maple Drive was formerly named Railroad Street.
