Purpose & Explanation
The Leadership Hudson Class of 2014 has approached the City's Department of Public Works to seek permission to install a solar panel power system at the Barlow Community Center as a class project. The specified system could handle approximately 25% of the building's load.
The installation of sustainable energy systems such as solar panels at the Barlow Community Center fits nicely into the Departments vision of implementing such systems in an effort to reduce energy costs as well as the City's overall carbon foot print. Projects such as this also create the opportunity to expand community education in cooperation with the Hudson Schools to showcase energy technologies and the importance of modern energy efficiencies and their impacts on the environment and associated eco-systems.
A ROI analysis has been calculated for the project considering the actual master plan costs as well as the project costs less estimated grant contributions. The project analysis includes the annual calculated energy savings as well as a 25 year term energy savings based on the actual energy use at the facility in 2013. Also attached is a map of the system panels proposed installation location on the south east roof section of the Barlow Community Center for review.
Timing Considerations
If approved, the Leadership Hudson class anticipates starting construction on this project in late 2014.
