Purpose & Explanation
Issue 12 would raise the County's portion of the sales tax by an additional 0.25% - from 0.50% to 0.75%.  If passed by voters, the additional sales tax would not be permanent and would end after a period of 10 years.
According to information provided by Summit County, the additional sales tax will be used for important public safety and capital needs, including: 1.) 30% of revenue collected will go toward the 800 MHz emergency radio system, 9-1-1 dispatch system and County capital needs; 2.) 45% of revenue collected will go toward the operation and maintenance of the jail; and 3.) 25% of revenue collected will go toward the general fund, of which 70% is spent on criminal justice and public safety.
