Purpose & Explanation

The current handheld radios used by the police department are at end of life and will no longer be serviced by manufacturer.  This project was included in the 2023-2027 Five Year Plan to be purchased in 2024.  The state term pricing is anticipated to increase in 2024 and we can save $62,744 if the purchase is made in 2023.  The purchase is also included in the 2024-2028 Five Year Plan at $270,000. If this purchase is made in 2023 the cost is $201,188 and the 2024 purchase will be eliminated.

Suggested Action

Staff recommends that City Council approve this resolution authorizing the City Manager to move forward with this purchase in 2023, as opposed to waiting until 2024.
