Purpose & Explanation
City Staff is seeking grant funding of $20,000 to assist with restoration and preservation work on the headstones in the Old Hudson Township Burying Ground. This grant is a 60/40 (grant/local) matching grant.
The local matching funds will be matched as follows:
The Western Reserve Academy is offering a $3,000 donation;
A Hudson resident will donate $10,000 donation and;
The City is donating "in-kind" work, which includes landscaping, and grant reporting, at $5,394.07.

Furthermore, the Western Reserve Academy also intends to use the Burying Ground as an outdoor classroom where WRA professors and students will research the former residents that are buried in the cemetery and create a virtual tour of the cemetery. Students will also research and write grants to help raise additional money to complete the entire restoration and preservation project beyond the Ohio History Grant. The Western Reserve Academy students will also assist the Hudson Cemeteries with the detailed maintenance necessary for preservation of a historic cemetery. Students will also assist with wrought iron repairs.
The grant deadline was October 1, 2020.
