Res No. 22-169 - Permission to Bid and Award; 12/28/2022
Purpose & Explanation
The project includes the installation of 1,195 feet of five (5) foot concrete sidewalk, parapet wall and railing, conduit, pull boxes, curbing, pavement mill and fill and drainage along Owen Brown Street between Lennox Road and Morse Road.
The original amount budgeted for this project was $375,000.
Bids were opened on August 24, 2023, with two bids being received. The lowest bid was $614,152.05 which was approximately 60% above our Engineer's Estimate of $383,200.00. Bids were evaluated, and as with other projects that have been bid out this year, Engineering is seeing higher than anticipated bid costs due to overall higher material/labor costs and time of year for bidding/construction of the project. In addition, this projects proximity to the railroad, limited work area and wall/railing system increased the overall project costs.
The revised Engineers Estimate for this project is $648,770.63. Staff is also requesting a 10% contingency in the amount of $64,877.06 to cover any unforeseen issues that may arise during construction for a total cost of $713,647.69. The total additional amount requested is $338,648 that would need to be appropriated to cover the cost of this project.
