Purpose & Explanation

The Hudson Police Department, the Hudson Fire Department and Hudson Emergency Medical Services are seeking grant funding for equipment necessary in the formation of an Active Shooter Rescue Task Force Team. The Team will have the capability to perform a coordinated rapid response to an active shooter situation at a school, community event or location in Hudson. Equipment costs, including ballistic vests, helmets and shields for the Hudson Fire Department and Hudson EMS, as well as rescue and medical equipment, are estimated at $55,000. The Team is seeking a $10,000 grant from the Burton D. Morgan Foundation.  The Team will seek grants and donations to fund this project.

Timing Considerations

The grant deadline is September 1, 2018 with a January/February 2019 award.  Emergency language is needed to timely meet this deadline.

Staff recommends City Council authorize the City Manager, or her designee, to apply for a Community Grant from the Burton D. Morgan Foundation to fund equipment for the Active Shooter Rescue Task Force Team on behalf of the Hudson Police Department, the Hudson Fire Department, and Hudson Emergency Medical Services.
