Following the project's completion, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) inquired about the location and condition of an abandoned drain line that connected the two lakes.
At the direction of City staff, the City's contractor excavated on the east and west embankments in the suspected location of the old drainpipe but could not find it. After the exploratory excavation, staff recorded the measurements and instructed the contractor to backfill the hole.

Since the dam is regulated by the ODNR, City staff contacted them to get their input on how to best investigate and repair the settled area. At ODNR's direction, City staff hired GPD Group to develop a professional engineering plan to repair it. The project will include removal of settled, saturated soils and replacement with clean, dry materials that will be properly compacted and tested. Upon completion, disturbed areas will be repaired.
The project design is anticipated to be approved by ODNR this winter and project constructed in the spring, weather permitting. Until the project is completed, staff recommends that both the upper and lower lake water levels are kept down (via open val...
