Purpose & Explanation
ODOT has a process that allows local public agencies (LPA) to administer projects that will use State or Federal funding. The process requires the LPA to enter into an agreement with ODOT for this process. The agreement requires the LPA to follow the State process for the contract. The LPA process allows for more local control of the design and construction.

The Veterans Trail Rails to Trail Project will be split 80%/20% max./min. (State/City) Transportation Alternatives Set Aside (TASA) grant for this project. The current award for this project is $700,000 and the City is responsible for all costs above the grant amount. The preliminary estimated total cost of the project is $3,410,000. The grant award will also be split with the City of Stow for the portion of the project in Stow. Both Stow and Hudson will contribute local matching funds toward the portions of the project in their respective communities. A consultant will be use for the design of the project. Once the consultant completes the project design and final cost estimate it will be presented to Council for approval to bid and advertise the project.

This project will construct a 10 foot wide asphalt trail starting at the railroad crossing at Barlow Road, then south, three and a half miles along the existing railroad line to Springdale Road in Stow. After completion of all segments, the trail will provide safe pedestrian access from Cuyahoga Falls, into Stow and Hudson.
