Brief Description: The City Engineering Staff would like to discuss upcoming Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study (AMATS) funding applications for various road and trail improvements throughout the City.

Purpose & Explanation
City staff is getting ready to submit applications for state and federal funding for several road, trail, and resurfacing projects. These applications are for the Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study (AMATS) bi-annual funding period. Staff has reviewed a number of potential project locations and identified those with the highest scoring potential. For your reference, an attached map shows the project locations and a preliminary summary matrix.
If Council is in concurrence, City staff will return to Council with a request for each project specific resolution, confirming the City's commitment to each project prior to submittal. The schedule for application submittals to AMATS is November 7, 2025. Below is a list of projects that City staff would like to submit for:
Resurfacing Grant:
1. Boston Mills Road Resurfacing (West Corp. Line to W. Streetsboro St)
2. Hines Hill Road Resurfacing (West Corp. Line to Future Bridge Project Limit)
Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG):
3. Ravenna Street at Stow Road Round About
4. Barlow Road (west) at Terex Road (west) Turn Lane Addition
5. Darrow Road (SR 91) - Middleton Rd to North Corp Line Signal and Turn Lane Improvements
Transportation Alternatives Set Aside (TASA) Grant:
6. Rails to Trails Trail Project - Barlow Road to Veterans Way (former Norfolk Southern Property)
Note that additional projects may be included in funding applications and legislation, pending upcoming project scoring changes from AMATS.
The City would be informed by AMATS if a project is funded in early 2026.
