Purpose & Explanation
In October 2020, the City finished a Safety Study of the Terex Road, Hudson Industrial Parkway and Barlow Road intersection. The 2020 study identified short-term and medium-term improvement recommendations to be implemented along the corridor and at the intersections including lowering of the speed limit long Terex Road, improved roadway striping and signage upgrades. These recommendations were implemented in 2021.
A follow up study was started in 2021 by the traffic consultant, Prime AE Group Inc., that evaluated long-term, intersection improvements to increase safety at the along Terex Road at Hudson Industrial Parkway and E. Barlow Road intersections.
The first phase of the updated study developed a list of possible alternative solutions, created concept plans for each solution and then rated each alternative to identify the top four preferred alternatives. At the February 22, 2022, Council Workshop, Prime AE presented the updated studies goals, initial alternate layouts evaluation, and top recommended improvements to be further analyzed in the second phase of the study.
Based upon the results of the preliminary study, public and Council comments, Prime AE moved forward with evaluating the top alternatives along with updated traffic data and warrant review for a potential traffic signal and identified a single, best alternative which includes realigning the intersection and introducing a round-about. The estimated cost for the design and construction of the project is estimated at $2.8 million.
